Why Lonnie Walker IV Could Be the Next Great Spur [HD]

There's a new era in San Antonio, and with the loss of Kawhi Leonard, the Spurs will be looking to build for the future...and their first round pick Lonnie Walker IV may just be the perfect solution. The 6'5 shotmaker is one of the best scorers in this year's draft class, and with some classic Spurs development, we could see him become one of the brightest young stars in the NBA.

  • Sir, now that a year (plus) passed since you produced this Lonnie video, what are your thoughts on his development and future? Can u share ur floor and ceiling with player comparisons? Also, what do u think of the way SAS has managed his playing time, psychology, etc. Thank u

    USAFO6USAFO67 oy oldin
    • I would say his development has went about how I would've imagined it would. I didn't think he would produce much until after his first couple of years, considering how the Spurs like to develop their prospects and ease them into things. I feel like he's shown flashes of potential, but next season will be the real test to see if he meets the standard of "next great Spur." I still think he needs to develop his shooting more to fit make a bigger role for himself alongside DeJounte Murray in the backcourt and he plays a little out of control at times. I trust the Spurs organization with developing young talent, they've developed multiple solid young players with their system and even a superstar in Kawhi. Lonnie Walker is in good hands and I think they're gonna give him every opportunity to prove himself. Mentally he just has to buy in to the team program and make the changes needed to play in a larger role.

  • Murray and Lonnie for future starters then Derrick White and Bryn Forbes for that future Patty/Green role at the back up position. Then develop Poltl and Metu(meh not sure bout him yet) as future Big men. I can see them following the same pattern as they had at Duncan's era. I'm not sure how Poltl and Metu will develop but obviously they wont get to Duncan's level and the game has evolved anyway. I really felt like kyle anderson will be the Diaw type and he will do good but its too bad they didn't keep him. The future for the spurs is bright they have all the pieces and IF the spurs development continue as it is then I can't see that playoff stretch ending

  • He could be, but we should let him develop for a season or two before expect too much on him. To be honest, he has show more promises as a rookie than when kawhi come to the spurs as a rookie. At least on the attack side.

    • Indiana, historically also really develops unknowns....look at Paul George, Domantas Sabonis, Victor Oladipo , each either traded from their origin team or drafted in mid 1st round. Each became All Stars in Indiana. Look for Goga Bitadze to develop into an All Star. Indiana is always a competitive franchise, even though a small market/non-free agent destination.
