Why Lauri Markkanen Has All Star Potential [HD]

On draft night, the Chicago Bulls traded away their franchise player, but I'm here to show you that the person they selected 7th overall, may be exactly what they needed in the first place.
Lauri Markkanen is the latest addition to the wave of 7 footers invading the NBA that have the ability to shoot and attack off the dribble. Let's take a closer look at the prospect many people are calling the best shooter in this draft, and how he can develop into the mold that was made by greats like Dirk Nowitzki and Kristaps Porzingis. Does Lauri Markkanen really have "Rookie of the Year" potential?

  • Reminds me of the rookie year of my man Scottie Pippen, coming up to build Bulls' dynasty. Quick, versatile, full bag of tricks, always fun to watch. Your predictions have been accurate so far. If stays healthy, he will be the gamechanger.

    Pekka ManninenPekka Manninen2 yil oldin
  • Dude, you nailed this prediction. Would anyone honestly trade Lauri, Dunn and Levine for Jimmy Butler right now? GarPax defied conventional wisdom and ended up with a 80% rebuilt team, suddenly on a nice little win streak. Only one or two star free agents away from being a really good contender next year. And Lauri looks like one of the main pieces.

    Gus PolinskiGus Polinski2 yil oldin
    • Paul Bearer I'm wary to give GarPax too much credit. They have been abysmal for a long time. And these are moves you would expect a competent management team to make. I will give them credit only for realizing that they couldn't wait any longer to move Butler. And Derrick Rose turned out to be the franchise deadweight that we some of us expected. Yes he was electric and fun as hell to watch during that MVP season but he was still a 6'3" superstar in a big man's league. You cannot have that much invested in a small. He killed the their cap and while I feel bad they got stuck with Rose and his crazy-ass management team, GarPax gave him that money. It was awful money and the reason they have to rebuild in the first place. The minute that contract was signed they were in NBA hell. They did it to themselves. That's a hell of a thing.

      R TR T2 yil oldin
    • +Paul Bearer Exactly. I haven't been the biggest fan of Gar-Pax but this pick/trade was perfect for the new direction in Chicago. Can't wait to see how Lauri develops.

First off, I wouldn't never traded Jimmy Butler for Zach Lavine because they're not gonna beat the Warriors anytime soon....but not only did you trade Lavine but you also give up Markkanen. WHAT?!?!?!?! You traded a baby UNICORN. The Timberwolves could've had Markkanen at PF alongside KAT at C. How did you fuck that up?!?!?!?!

    • Sebastian Mandart There was no reason to think his D wasn't going to be really solid. You cannot teach footwork like that. You either have it or you don't. Everything was right on the money, music was cool , you give good and bad, perfect clips and comparisons to Dirk Diggler and ZinGod etc... Chicago made a great move for a rebuild under a new coach F.H "Ok what do you want Fred?" Shooters and a 2-3 year "Trust the process" with 2-3 top 5 picks!!! You start a new culture with new employes....Bye bye Rondo, Butler and Wade (Cameron is out too). Lauri is a BIG piece as a 4-5 who has to have a man in his face at all times. Dunn will thrive better under Fred Hoiberg and i do believe Lavine wants to be great...he is already jumping higher NOW (after injury) than he did at the draft combine!! Lauri is killin it at FIBA European Championships showing his potential. PS. I have Milos Teodosic as my sleeper for ROY. He should touch the ball a lot and he is going to a playoff bound team. Great video....subscribed and looking forward to watching the next one now!

  • Bro good vid overall and Lauri will be a beast. However he will NEVER be a GREAT shot blocker. You say you expect it for a 7 footer well you gotta look at wingspan not just height when addressing shot blocking. Wingspan is the major trait for shot blockers. Lauri only has a 7 foot wingspan so he will never be great at shot blocking. But he can certainly get better there and prob will it'll just never be a great facet of his game. Just had to point that out.

    max cadymax cady3 yil oldin
    • It is not really wingspan that makes you an elite shot blocker. It is your standing reach and vertical leap that are the physical side to the art. Wingspan on the other hand is helpful to determine the ability to put pressure on the ball and get into passing lanes. They are related physical traits, but not always. There are players with great wingspan and average standing reach and vise versa.

I definitely am one of those who compare him to Ryan Anderson which for the Bulls is still great! But I feel the intangibles, quick release, sharp shooting, spot up shooting. • I have just fallen in love with markkanen, but I really don't think he'll win rookie of the year. A few days ago, the NBA proclaimed Malcolm Brogdon the rookie of the year. Nobody was going to argue that he deserved the award because he was better than the other candidates, he got it because he helped contribute to a winning team. Next year, the sixers are supposed to be nice. Assuming everyone's healthy, the sixers will be in a great spot, thus giving Ben Simmons or markelle Fultz the best shot at the ROTY award.

    SuaveXZSuaveXZ3 yil oldin
  • Admittedly you have swayed me on Lauri but his defence is a problem yet to be in the NBA yes so we don't 100% know but he has a serious problem moving laterally. You could see it on the offensive highlights you showed he couldn't just straight up blow by the bigs on close outs, can't quite create the space. I have my doubts more European Channing Frye than Dirk but with Hoiberg I feel confident he will know how to use him, see if you sign a nice 3 guy to round out. James Johnson or such.

  • I have no doubt Lauri is gonna be great(so dont worry chicago) but IMO Dennis Smith Jr. is going to be set up for rookie of the year. First off he has two veteran point guards mentoring him(JJ Barea and Devin Harris) and one of the best coaches in the league, Rick Carlisle. Here is the thing, Mavs are missing a scorer, and yet as a team are set up to be more successful than Fultz's 76's, Lonzo's Lakers, Ntilikina's Knicks, or a Butler-less Chicago. They implemented a bunch of things that is going to wildly turn around the team this next year which will automatically make him look better, not only that there is no assist maker. So If he is relatively competent at scoring and passing he is going to average probably north toward 20 points and a lot of assists and turn around a team to make the playoffs. Instant Rookie of the year. That being said Lauri is mini-dirk so congrats on Chicago for getting the big finnish dude. Maybe one day Bulls-Mavericks will meet up in the finals.

  • Man, this reminds me too damn much of Niko and Doug. Tall 3 point specialists that "aren't just shooters, and can do so much more!". I'm so freaking tired of hearing that bull crap, then ending up with a soft ass foul machine that can't really handle the physicality and quickness of the NBA, and can't stay on the court because his defense is so damn garbage. Please, don't be another Niko or Doug. And wtf is up with this FO and being obsessed with finding the next Dirk? Dirk was a can't miss prospect, and quick as a cat for his size, and Uber athletic. There was almost no question he'd be a rotational starter with all star potential. You can't keep getting guys that seem like Dirk esque players, but without the obvious all star potential. They're just hoping and praying he becomes a Peja or Dirk. I really hope he can at least become a serviceable starter that can stay on the floor, and create matchup problems for the opposing team, and make our offense super dyanmic because of it.
